The club has started its Summer Tour 2009! Disappointed with the lack of summer model shows, members of SCMMC can be found out in the field taking modelling to the public! Branching out into real (1/1 scale for all you modellers) vehicles, the club proudly displays British military vehicles alongside our mobile marquee at a number of classic vehicle events in the South Cheshire area. Ever keen to spread the word, club members can be found chatting to the public about the real vehicle at one moment and talking models the next - a great way to get people involved in the hobby. Keep an eye on the diary dates section for the next show and come and see us!

On Sunday 21 September, the club will going to the ever popular Sutton Coldfield show. Held in the sumptuous surroundings of Sutton's Town Hall, plenty of trade stands, club displays and, of course, the competition make this a great day out. As if you needed any extra encouragement, the food is always good, too!
Our club extended it's ramge this summer, branching out into 1:1 scale! We visited a variety of vehicle rallies showing full size military vehicles alongside our new marquee housing the club display stand. Much interest was generated amongst military vehicle fans and the general public alike taking our hobby out to a wider audience.

The Lincoln and Newark Model Expo 2007 brought a clutch of rewards for club members in the competition. Phil achieved second place with his excellent 1/144 Pearl Harbour diorama and was also highly commended by the judges for his Scout Walker in the Sci-Fi class. Alan's Japanese cruiser took second place in the ship class, whilst Euan took away first and second place for his Meteor T.7 and Gannet respectively. The prizes were awarded by no less than John Adams of Aeroclub fame, a stalwart of the show. The club also enjoyed a visit to the superb Newark Aviation Museum (see here for their site) where a trip around the Shackleton MR.3 was made more special by a chat with the former pilot! Our hats go off to the organisers of the show who pulled off an amazing feat of moving an entire show with very little time left before the event due to flood damage at the Southwell Racecourse Grandstand. Some criticism must be levelled, however, at the organisers of the Showground who failed to provide catering facilites as requested and took a somewhat petty approach to visitors to the model show using their facilities. We wish the Lincoln and Newark teams luck in finding a friendlier venue next year, perhaps the nearby museum - we can hope!

Visit to Newark Aviation Museum We're planning our first trip to the Expo 2007 show run by the Lincoln Model Club. This year, the show is being held on Sunday 14 Oct 07 at the Newark Show Ground at the junction of the A46 and A17 in Nottinghamshire (also home to the Newark Air Museum). We're looking forward to this new show on the calendar, filling the gap in our diaries left by the demise of the Cosford show. Visit the website here for more details.
The club's annual outing to the Midlands was enjoyed by club members. An excellent show held in an elegant building, the Town Hall, no less, has grown bigger and better each year - 2007 was no exception. A plethora of club and trade stands catering to a variety of modelling tastes were on offer, with the bonus of a very well attended open competition. Three club members, including our youngest member, triumphed in the competition with an array of prizes (see pictures, below).
SCMMC is pleased to support a new Warhammer Club being established in Crewe. The ever popular Games Workshop products have been a feature at the club, but a new member is going that step beyond! They are looking for all likeminded adult Warhammer players eager to join, model and compete against each other. Lee will be available at most club meetings (see below left for details) or contact him through the form on the contact page.
Alan represented the club at the Croft model show on Sunday, more details to follow!
Thank you all! Clubs, traders, vistors, staff and, indeed, everyone helped make 2007 a year to remember for the South Cheshire Militaire. A definite Sci-Fi theme ran through this year's show, From an invasion by the Dalek Builders' Guild, a battle droid and a certain blue Police Box in the foyer, to Adrian Hopwood's best in show, Astaroth, from the Fantasy and Sci-Fi competition class. Phil Stutcinskas' armour and Adrian Hopwood's figures attracted a great deal of interest, we hope they will continue to visit our future shows. See you in 2008!

The club was proud to have assisted the Royal British Legion poppy collection in Crewe town centre (see previous article) in raising £551.25. Very well done to all concerned for such a worthy cause.
Further updates to the model competition classes! Following last year's show, not one new class has been added, but two! Fifty years ago today, Britain and France launched Operation Musketeer to regain control of the Suez Canal after President Nasser had nationalised it. To commemorate, we bring together club member Phil's scratchbuilt Suez paratrooper, Robert Aspinall's Westland Wyvern from the 2005 competition and Dave Halliday's AW Seahawk from the Warrington IPMS club that deserved a show feature in 2005 (more of Dave's Seahawk here)

The club travelled south to the Midlands to take part in the excellent Sutton Coldfield show. No less then ten SCMMC members turned up for the show, many of the club's new maroon shirts could be spotted throughout the show. A number of outstanding results were gained, see below for details.

The club displayed a CVR(T) Sabre reconnaisance vehicle, belonging to one of our members, to the Chester Yeomanry social day on Sunday. A variety of military vehicles attended the event, but the carefully restored Sabre drew admiring visitors from military and public alike.
The club ventured North once again to attend the Croft model show, run by the Birchwood Model Club in support of the British Heart Foundation. The relaxed and friendly show in this attractive village near Warrington was thoroughly enjoyed by all those attending. The club decided to support the show and its very worthwhile charitable aims not only by taking part, but also by providing a donation to the British Heart Foundation via the show organiser, Paul Gemmell.
Phil and Mike present a cheque to Paul Gemmell, show organiser, and Shirley McNally, BHF Community Fundraising Manager The world record holder for the longest Service flying career, Sqn Ldr Norman Rose AFC & bar, has written his autobiography. Why is this on a modelling site? Norman undertook to build a model of at least one of every type he had flown. The resulting collection was so impressive it was acquired by the Imperial War Museum, and now resides with the Southampton Museum of Aviation. Norman's book is available from Keyham Books.

Phil Stutcinskas' amazing rendition of the CMK "Kriegslocomotive" in 1/35 will be featured at the Militaire this year. This outstanding model was recently featured in Military Modelling magazine and will be on the 'must see' list of many modellers.
In addition to the wide variety of models, several new additions are to be found this year. Building on the success of the full-size Star Wars Droid at the last show, it will return this year along with Boba Fett! Alongside this will be a full size Dalek and a Zulu display. Keep coming back for more news!
The club made the trip over the Thelwall Viaduct to visit the Bolton IPMS show. Although a small venue, the show was well attended and full of models to look at and buy.
